Privacy Policy

This policy describes how ShieldMotors ("we," "us") collects, uses, retains, and protects personal information in connection with shieldmotors.ca and related services. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

01Scope and contact

ShieldMotors operates a private vehicle marketplace based in Calgary, Alberta. Questions, requests, or concerns regarding this policy or your personal information may be directed to info@shieldmotors.ca. All privacy-related inquiries are reviewed and answered directly.

02Information we collect

• Waitlist registration: name, email address, intended role (buyer, seller, or both), and city. This information is used to communicate platform updates and to match users with relevant listings.
• Buyer preferences: where a buyer voluntarily provides search criteria (such as budget or vehicle type), we retain it solely to notify them of matching listings. It may be deleted on request at any time.
• Seller identity verification: identity verification is performed by Stripe Identity, a third-party verification provider. Government-issued identification and biometric selfie data are submitted directly to Stripe. ShieldMotors receives only the verification outcome and the verified name. We do not receive, view, or store identification documents. Stripe's processing of this data is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.
• Vehicle registration confirmation: sellers provide an image of the current Alberta vehicle registration so that the registered owner's name can be confirmed against the verified identity. This check is fundamental to the integrity of the platform.
• Listing content: vehicle details and photographs that sellers choose to publish.

03Retention and deletion

Vehicle registration images are deleted when the associated listing is removed from the platform, whether due to sale or withdrawal. At the same time, we request redaction of the associated Stripe verification session, which removes the personal information Stripe retains for that session.

Following the end of a listing, we retain a minimal record consisting of the seller's name, email address, the vehicle identification number (VIN), and the listing dates. This record is necessary to enforce the platform's one-listing-per-person-per-year policy and to maintain accountability in the event a buyer reports a concern. Waitlist information is retained until the individual requests removal.

The platform is operated using Netlify (website hosting and form processing), Google Workspace (email), and Stripe (identity verification), each processing only the information required to perform its function under its own privacy policy.

04Use and disclosure

• We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information under any circumstances.
• We do not disclose contact information between users without their participation. Buyers contact sellers through the listing; any further exchange of information is at the discretion of the parties involved.
• We do not operate third-party advertising or tracking networks on this site.

05Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, request that it be corrected, or request that it be deleted. Requests may be submitted to info@shieldmotors.ca and will be acted upon promptly. If you believe your concerns have not been adequately addressed, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

06Changes to this policy

Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the effective date above and communicated to waitlist registrants by email. The deletion commitments described in Section 03 will not be weakened without clear, advance notice.
