ShieldMotors is Alberta's verified private vehicle marketplace. Every seller on the platform is identity-verified and matched against the vehicle's registration before a listing goes live. Buyers deal with the registered owner, every time.
The platform was founded in Calgary in 2026, after our founder spent two months searching for a vehicle in the local private market. Of roughly forty cars viewed, nearly all carried problems the listings never disclosed: undeclared accident damage, out-of-province rebuilt titles, inconsistent odometer histories, and "private sellers" who were in fact unlicensed dealers, known as curbsiders, flipping multiple vehicles at once.
The core problem is structural. Major classifieds platforms ask no questions about who is selling, so high-volume flippers operate freely alongside genuine owners. Honest sellers are buried, buyers can't tell who is who, and both sides pay for it: legitimate sellers get lowballed by buyers conditioned to expect deception, and buyers lose months to listings that fall apart under scrutiny.
When that experience was shared publicly on r/Calgary, it was read more than one hundred thousand times within days. The scale of the response made one thing clear: this is not bad luck. It is the standard experience of buying a vehicle privately in Alberta, and it exists because no platform has been willing to verify its sellers.
ShieldMotors is built on a single principle: before any listing goes live, the seller proves who they are, and proves the vehicle is registered in their name. Identity verification is processed by Stripe, the same infrastructure used by leading marketplaces worldwide. Listings are limited to one per person per year, which makes the platform structurally unworkable for commercial flippers while remaining invisible to genuine owners.
The platform is in its founding stage. Early sellers are onboarded personally, and every inquiry to info@shieldmotors.ca is answered directly. We would rather grow carefully and keep the standard high than grow fast and become the problem we were built to solve.
